Information Systems Governance, a Key Issue for Information Systems Managers
Gouvernance

All organizations are concerned with Information Systems Governance (ISG). How can you successfully align your company’s strategic objectives or its organization with the operational reality of its technical infrastructure, computer resources and organizational constraints?

How can you successfully adapt your data strategy to you company or organization’s strategy?

Fast & Furious Data Syndrome

If you have already been tearing your hair out on hearing the following:

  • "This year, we’re going to have to deal with our data"
  • "There’s no longer any choice, we need to develop a data project"
  • "We don’t really know where this will lead us, but everyone is doing it…"
  • "We’re going to create a data team and we’ll see what happens after that!"

You’re not alone in this. First and foremost, you should be aware that you cannot set up a data governance policy without having clearly established your Information Systems Governance beforehand.

So how do you go about this? Where do you begin?

Naturally, there are benchmarks that have proved their worth (in some cases more than others): COBIT, IT Infrastructure library, CMMI or the ISO 27001 and 20000 standards. These are good frameworks and benchmarks. But be careful to align the methodology with your operational reality.

Many have come unstuck by creating disproportionate methods and processes that are not suited to their constraints.

To find out how to succeed in this delicate balancing act between formal approach and efficiency, I suggest you follow the course on information systems governance (in French).

This course is hosted by the openclassroom platform and it is an opportunity to dig a little deeper! You will find content on methodology, examples and feedback from a variety of sectors (private and public).
